Josh McGuire Scores Pair of Top Tens Last Weekend in Ohio!
(GRAYSON, KENTUCKY) Grayson, Kentucky native Josh McGuire kicked the June 13-14 weekend off at the Rocky Top Raceway in Coal Grove, Ohio on Friday night, June 13. An unsanctioned show was held last Friday at RTR and a $5,000 top prize was up for grabs. Josh drove his #41 C.J. Rayburn racecar to a fourth place finish in his heat race before winding up in the ninth position in the 'Tri-America Contractors 50.'
Josh then made his debut in the Stephens Motorsports #34 ride on Saturday evening, June 14 at the Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio. The Independent Racing Series (IRS) sanctioned a $5,000 to win show on Saturday at PRP. In his first night with the Flemingsburg, Kentucky team, Josh wheeled their C.J. Rayburn chassis to a fourth place effort in heat race action prior to being credited with an eighth place performance in the A-Main. That eighth place run was not easy; however, as Josh had to rally from the tail of the field twice due to an incident and a flat tire. You can view complete results from both southern Ohio ovals online at www.rockytopraceway.net and www.irsracing.net.
"Our weekend did not start off so hot at Rocky Top, as I wasn't very good at all for some reason," quoted McGuire yesterday via telephone. "But at Portsmouth on Saturday, the #34 car was really quick. I think we had a third place car, but I unfortunately had to come from the back a couple of times due to a wreck and a subsequent flat tire. I have to thank Mary Lou and everyone associated with the Stephens Motorsports team for allowing me to drive their equipment. It is a privilege and hopefully we can land the #34 in victory lane very soon!"
The Stephens Motorsports team, with Josh behind the wheel of their #34 entry, will once again tackle the Buckeye State of Ohio this upcoming weekend. The Moler Raceway Park in Williamsburg, Ohio will play host to a $2,000 to win show tonight, June 20, while the Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio will do the same on Saturday evening, June 21.
